Terms of use
Last updated: 2026
SunPathly is free to use and asks nothing of you. In return, these are the terms on which it is offered. They are written to be read rather than to be legally impenetrable, but they mean what they say. Using the site means you accept them; if you do not, please do not use it.
The short version
- Every figure on this site is a computed estimate, not a measurement of your actual property.
- The models deliberately ignore weather, terrain, real horizons and a good deal else. They describe an idealised clear sky over flat ground.
- Nothing here is professional advice, and none of it is a survey.
- Check anything that money, safety or a legal position depends on against a qualified professional before you act on it.
- The site is provided as-is, and we are not liable for decisions taken on the strength of it.
The numbers are estimates
Sun position itself is one of the few things about the outdoors that can be calculated precisely, and the underlying astronomy here is good to about an arc minute. But the number you actually read off the screen is the product of that astronomy and a set of simplifications, and the dimensions you typed in. Any of the three can be wrong.
In particular, the tools assume a cloudless sky, flat ground, a flat horizon, solid opaque obstructions and geometry exactly as you entered it. Real sites have none of those properties. Hours of direct sun are therefore clear-sky maxima — an upper bound, not an average, and a real site will normally receive less. The about page sets out the assumptions and known limits in detail, and it is worth reading before you rely on anything.
Sunrise and sunset times are computed for the coordinates given, at ground level, with a standard refraction allowance. Refraction varies with air temperature and pressure, so published almanacs and other calculators can differ by a minute or two. That is normal and is not evidence that either is broken.
Not professional advice
SunPathly is an informational tool. It is not architectural, surveying, planning, legal, horticultural, structural, financial or energy advice, and no professional relationship is created by your using it.
It is emphatically not a daylight, sunlight or right-to-light assessment. Those are formal exercises carried out to recognised methodologies, using measured building heights and site levels, and they are the only thing that carries weight in a planning objection, a boundary dispute or a property transaction. If you need one, commission one.
Similarly, solar figures here are a geometric guide to orientation and pitch. They are not a yield guarantee, a quotation, or a basis for a financial projection. Get a site-specific assessment from an installer before spending money.
No warranty
The site and everything on it are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the calculations are accurate, complete, current or fit for any particular purpose, nor that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the fullest extent permitted by law, all implied warranties are excluded.
This is not a disclaimer of interest in getting it right: errors are taken seriously and corrections are genuinely welcome. It is a statement that you should verify before you rely.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss or damage arising out of your use of, or reliance on, this site — including lost money, wasted expenditure, lost time, lost opportunity, property decisions, planting decisions, construction or installation decisions, or any indirect or consequential loss of any kind.
You use the figures at your own risk, and you are responsible for deciding whether they are adequate for whatever you intend to do with them.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer, these terms do not affect your statutory rights, including those under the Consumer Rights Act 2022 and applicable EU consumer law.
Acceptable use
You may use SunPathly freely for personal and commercial purposes, including in your own professional work, provided you take responsibility for checking the output. Please do not attempt to disrupt the site, scrape it at a volume that degrades it for others, or present its output as a formal survey or as the work of a qualified assessor.
Advertising and third-party links
The site carries third-party advertising and links to external resources. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party content, products or services, and a link is not an endorsement. Your dealings with any advertiser are between you and them. How advertising interacts with your data is covered on the privacy page.
Availability and changes
The site is offered free of charge and may be changed, interrupted or withdrawn at any time without notice. These terms may change too; the date at the top of this page changes with them, and continuing to use the site means accepting the current version.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, and the courts of Ireland have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident in another country, you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections of the law of your own country of residence, and nothing here deprives you of them.
